A quick SEO primer: Four women in an office meeting

What’s this? A quick SEO introduction? Yes indeed! Here, we’re going to briefly look at how to create content with SEO in mind.

The reason why you might want to do this is because you could one day need to create content for your business.

And when you do that, you typically would like to have a plan in mind. And the main plan is to adhere to SEO’s best practices, so that you will be able to rank higher on Google. Who knows, someday you might be able to capitalise on that privilege.

So you will be doing this today—learning to create content optimised for Google every time you need it.

Do I really need this quick SEO introduction?

In all honesty, as long as you design your content for humans (and not try to game the system too much), you should be fine in general. But if you’re looking for a place to start, then you can’t go wrong by following the tips found in this quick SEO introduction.

Real quickly, all you need to know is that every time you create new content, it’s best to have:

  • a keyword you want to rank for
  • inserting said keyword into your title, headings, meta data, and URL slug
  • at least 300 words in the article
  • alt images for your pics
  • inbound and outbound links

Of course, it’s best if you have something real to promote too. This way, you can practice how to best come up with different ways to talk about your products or services.

Don’t worry about the why yet

Just get used to creating content based on these guidelines first. Then when you have the muscle memory, you can start exploring all the other factors that help you rank on Google.

And if this quick SEO introduction is a little too basic for you, then you’re ready to head to the next stage!
